Doris Banham was a dedicated animal lover throughout her life who sadly died in November 2001. The following year in June 2002 her daughter, Trudie James, decided to honour her life

and dedication to animals by establishing The Doris Banham Sanctuary.

The charity was set up to help all animals, but as we became increasingly aware of the heart breaking needless destruction of unclaimed dogs in dog pounds, we vowed to help them and the charity has developed to provide an essential life saving rescue service for these forgotten dogs.

We are a non-profit organisation and rely totally on fundraising and donations to save these animals.

We need foster carers near to our kennel bases. Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Crewe or Yorkshire... please have a read what is required with being a fosterer. You could help save 100's of dogs.

Also need homecheckers all over the Uk to add to our database

Dear friends,

Due to the recent number of dogs that we have rescued from being put-to-sleep we have now reached the limit of number of dogs that we are able to support. This means that unless we can either increase our facilities or quickly reduce the number of dogs we are currently boarding we will be forced to close our doors in the short-term.

This will be a sad day for us, with your wonderful support we have always been able to be the last resort for the unclaimed pound dogs facing death, always been able to be the safety net for those of you who are also a rescue.

Without available rescue spaces or emergency boarding facilities the unclaimed pound dogs facing PTS will probably die, many of them healthy and homeable dogs desperately hoping for a chance to live and to find a loving home.

Please consider helping and supporting us to save these otherwise doomed dogs. It is such a sad waste to allow the destruction of so many dogs that are able to be found loving homes if only they are given the chance.
